*insert wavy flashback effect here*
I grew up in the quiet rural town of Morinville, Alberta (Canada) with my parents who filed for a divorce while I was attending the fifth grade, by this time my art skills were budding and I was climbing the ladder for best artist in my grade.
By the seventh grade, it was clear that I wanted to do something artistic with my life. The seventh grade (1994) was the beginning of my artistic slope. I always enjoyed drawing and painting and in terms of skill I was only second best in my grade. Seeing how Art-7 was non-manditory, I decided to continue my art lessons, along with my computer and shop classes..
The next year I moved on to the next school in my town (another Jr. High) at which I met Mrs. Danyluk. She was the art teacher that gave me the guidance and confidence to become whatever I wanted to be. Those two years, were probably the best years of school I'll ever have. I graduated Jr. High with great marks, and 100% in Art-9.
Grade 10 (1997), was the turning point of my scholastic studies. I didn't manage to take Art-10 due to lack of space in my schedule, I figured I'd just take it in grade 11. In grade 11 I requested that I be placed in the grade 11 art stream, but the teacher of that particular course was an old witch, stating that if I wanted to be in HER class (the only art teacher in the school) I'd have to take Art-10. Prick... Anyways, I continued my art studies at home. Over the course of those three years my marks went downhill, but I did manage to graduate.
One day nearing the end of my grade 11, I was surfing the net in the library for dragon images, when I stumbled upon the furry fandom (Furnation to be prescise). It was at that point that my art became focused upon a specific genre, before then I really didn't have anything to focus on, or be inspired by.
During my graduating year (1999) I chatted whole-heartedly online (my parents had bought a computer finally). IRC was the client of choice, as it didn't involve a whole lot of know-how. By this time I had a pretty good idea of the size of the fandom, and figured that I was the only fur in the province. Until one day I told a fur (WhiteFox, from Edmonton) that I lived in Alberta. He asked where, to which I replied with the name of my town. Apparently we lived no more than 17 kilometers away from eachother. He knew a couple other local furs, and so we planned a get together ("furmeet"). Over the course of the year, the local group grew in numbers from it's original 3-4 members, to about 10. This gave me the opportunity to be a little more open about my art.
The summer came and a girl that I still hung out with out of school, Kristy, had become interested in the furry-fandom. I explained it to her, and told her that I was having a furmeet at my house that weekend, asking her if she wanted to come. She said she'd think about it. She came, and from there things just got thicker and thicker. Her and I got together officially on September 2nd, 1999 as boyfriend/girlfriend, little did we know the size of rollercoaster we stepped on.
That spring (2000) Kristy (who took on the alais of Jia) became pregnant. We didn't know how at the time, but we later discovered that her horomones didn't respond to birth control. We made the descision that abortion was wrong, and that we'd adopt-out, as soon as the child was born. Nine month's passed (we moved in with Orcinus, a fur in Edmonton) and our parents found out two and a half months before her due date that she was pregnant. At this point they swayed our descision to adopt to that of keeping the child. We attempted to keep him at first but the list of disorders piled up. Our son Benjamin was diagnosed with ATD, or Jeunes Syndorme, and was removed from our care by choice, into a medical foster home. He died at the age of nine months.
Jia and I took a little break up in Yellowknife (three months ago), where my Mom shacked us up to get away from all the hubub down south. Which gave us timne to think about our new predicament. Jia was pregnant again (this time we used birth control & condoms, guess I got strong swimmers). Neither she nor I knew if we could handle being a parent again, especially if our parents were going to be pushy and controlling, like they were the first time. We came back and informed everyone that the best descision is to adopt. I don't think Jia or I really thought we'd be able to go through with it though. The thought of having a second chance at having a healthy child was very strong.
In the end (today), we descided to keep her. Monica lives with us, and will be here with us till she's ready to go out on her own. There was just something about having a healthy baby that changed our minds, and we're happy it did.
Would I go back and change anything?.. No, I guess not.
